The number of Visa cards issued in Poland exceeded 20.9 million at the end of March. The fast rise in the number of Visa cards has been coupled with increased use for non-cash payments. In the financial year that ended in March, the number of non-cash transactions increased by 28.9% to 414.6 million. The total value of Visa card payments rose by 27% to 12.3 billion euros. In the same period, the total number of transactions with Visa cards, including cash withdrawals from automatic teller machines, reached 865.5 million, while the total value of Visa card transactions exceeded 52.1 billion euros.

"Poland ranks sixth in Europe in terms of the number of Visa cards issued. And since growth in the number of non-cash payments in Poland is much faster than the European average, Poland is swiftly catching up with Western European countries," Peter Ayliffe, president of Visa Europe, said at a press conference in Warsaw.
