The 5th ECCO Walkathon charity walk is taking place in Warsaw Sept. 12. The ECCO company from Denmark is organizing the sponsored walk in cities across the world aiming to raise funds for projects designed to protect the environment, provide education to children and young people, and promote healthy lifestyles.

Money from this year's fundraiser will be allocated to the Street Kids International organization for child education in Poland and Kenya, the World Wildlife Fund (WWF), for the protection of polar bears in the Arctic, and the Mimo Wszystko (Against the Odds) Anna Dymna foundation, a public benefit organization helping the disabled.

Participants in the walk can decide for which of the three organizations they want to raise funds. ECCO will pay zl.4 for every kilometer a participant walks to the beneficiary he or she chooses.

Participants need to buy a ticket. These are available from ECCO and ECCO Kids stores and online at eccowalkathon.pl priced zl.10 (adults) and zl.5 (children). Each ticket holder will obtain a special walker's package. The number of tickets is limited.

This year, two routes have been prepared for walkers: 6 km and 10 km long. The shorter route is for walkers with prams and elderly and disabled people. The routes start in Warsaw's Podzamcze neighborhood.

Last year, nearly 20,000 took part in the walk. They collected zl.660,000 in total.
