Marcin Kozieł, a civilian official at the ministry of defense, took over as head of the NATO Liaison Office in Kiev, Ukraine, at the beginning of August.

Kozieł previously worked in the defense policy and planning department of NATO's International Secretariat from 2002, dealing with problems related to cooperation between NATO and Ukraine. He will head NATO's Kiev office for three years with an option to extend his tenure.

Kozieł will be responsible for maintaining and tightening relations between the Atlantic Alliance and Ukraine, especially for supporting the defense reforms Ukraine is required to carry out in the context of its aspirations to become a NATO member. He will also supervise NATO assistance funds transferred to Ukraine.
