Warsaw's Zachęta National Gallery of Art is holding an exhibition called Siusiu w torcik (To Pee in a Bun), featuring a selection of works from its own collections.

Works for the exhibition, the fifth show of this kind staged by the gallery, have been selected by Karol Radziszewski, a graduate of the Academy of Fine Arts (ASP) in Warsaw. The exhibition at Zachęta marks Radziszewski's debut as curator.

The exhibition title comes from a rhyme by the late conceptual artist Edward Krasiński. Krasiński produced a 3D arrangement composed of photographic reproductions of paintings, including Jan Matejko's famous Bitwa pod Grunwaldem (Battle of Tannenberg), for a monographic exhibition in 1997. Krasiński's work, which inspires reflections on the dividing line between the notion of "artist" and "curator," became a starting point for Radziszewski.

The exhibition at Zachęta has paintings and rarely displayed graphic works, mainly dating back to the 1960s and '70s. A special place goes to various approaches to the female nude. Radziszewski has made a subjective selection and at the same time a reinterpretation of works, placing them in new and at times surprising contexts.

Radziszewski says that he treats work created by other artists as components of a larger whole, as tubes of paint to squeeze color from to paint a composite picture.

These days, nothing seems to promote art better than a scandal. Once a week, on Friday just before closing time, adult visitors have an opportunity to see the first gay pornographic film produced in Poland.
