The European Festival of Arts and Crafts will take place Oct. 3-4 at the Expo XXI center in Warsaw. The idea behind it is to promote both Polish and European regions as well as their traditional crafts, folklore and products. A further festival is planned for December and at least four more are lined up for next year. The festival will also feature numerous musical attractions.

First up will be Jose Torres' conSONantes, Oct. 3 at 11 a.m. and 5:20 p.m. Torres, a precursor of salsa in Poland, will take the listeners on a musical journey through the different dance styles of his native Cuba. Each stop will include an explanation of the cultural background that led to the dance's creation. The dancers illustrating this journey are some of the leading lights of the Polish Latin dancing scene.

Next, the Tanto Flamenco group performs at noon and 4:15 p.m. They are Andrzej Lewocki, the founder of the Lublin Flamenco School and an accomplished guitar player in his own right, and Jakub Niedoborek, a renowned classical and flamenco guitarist active in numerous musical projects. They will be joined by the charismatic Magda Navarette, the rising star of Polish flamenco music.

At 1 p.m. and 2:30 p.m., the Stonehenge ensemble, dressed in kilts, will play Celtic music.

And on Oct. 4 at 11 a.m., Ivan Mladek and the Banjo Band will entertain listeners with over 25 favorites picked from 40 years of Mladek's career, including all-time favorites such as "Jozin z bazin" and "Linda." The popular Czech singer will perform part of his repertoire in Polish and the whole will be interspersed with numerous sketches and interludes presenting some of the other members of the Banjo Band.
