Cruise ships with a combined 200,000 tourists on board called at the northern ports of Gdańsk and Gdynia during the summer season.

In September, three large cruise ships docked at Gdynia at the same time: the Emerald Princess, the Costa Mediterranea, and the Zenith.

The Emerald Princess, built at the Fincantieri shipyard in Italy in 2007, is 288 meters long and accommodates 3,314 passengers and a crew of 1,200. The ship's attractions include swimming pools, restaurants, bars, duty-free stores and boutiques, internet cafes, a casino, a cinema and a theater.

Gdynia also hosted the Emerald Princess' "sister ships" Star Princess and Grand Princess and other large cruise ships such as the Costa Magica and the AidaLuna, each of which brought 2,700 passengers with it.

The port of Gdańsk hosted a total of 17 cruise ships during the summer. In all, they called at the port 39 times. The largest of them was the Arcadia, a luxury vessel built by Italian shipbuilding group Fincantieri for P&O Cruises for 300 million euros in just 20 months. This 286-meter-long and 33-meter-wide vessel docked at the DCT Gdańsk container terminal.

The Arcadia has 11 decks, 14 bars, four restaurants, a cafe, two swimming pools, a theater, a cinema, a casino, a nightclub, a spa center, and an art gallery. Other attractions include three atrium-type decks and four glazed elevators. The Arcadia brought 2,015 passengers and 871 crew members to Gdańsk from Britain.
