Satire on Parade
Warsaw's Museum of Cartoon Art and Caricature is hosting its annual exhibition of work entered for the Satyrykon International Cartoon Competition held in Legnica, Lower Silesia.
The Satyrykon is unrivaled in Poland and is recognized the world over. American journal Witty World ranks it among the top 10 festivals of its kind in the world and the International Federation of Cartoonists' Organizations gives it a maximum five-star rating. The event has managed to draw the top artists in various categories for over 30 years. It attracts a large crowds and has built up a huge following. The Satyrykon is open to cartoonists, graphic artists, painters, sculptors, poster artists and photographers.
As well as the Satire and Humor general competition, a lead theme is announced every year. This year's theme was "Woman." A total of 747 artists from 50 countries submitted a total of 2,674 entries. The jury accepted 208 works from 132 artists for the post-competition exhibition.
This year's main prize went to Polish cartoonist Agata Dudek for her What a Woman Is Like… series.
