The first Gmina 2009 Trade Fair for Communes, Cities and Regions, an initiative of the Poznań International Fair (MTP) company, will be held Nov. 24-27.

The fair is aimed at local governments, associations and organizations responsible for shaping and developing Poland's regions, cities and villages. The topics will include urban space development, technical infrastructure and landscape architecture. Exhibitors will present designs and products related to urban architecture (road surfaces, street lighting, bus-stop infrastructure, bicycle routes), architectural elements for streets and squares, landscape architecture (parks and greens), infrastructure for the disabled, for education, culture and sport (recreational areas, sports equipment) and IT for public institutions.

The organizers say the fair will showcase the latest ideas for significantly improving people's lives in local communities. This diverse and comprehensive exhibition will help visitors-local government officials, decision-makers from public institutions, development strategy specialists-to make effective and advantageous decisions on planned investments.

The topics covered at Gmina 2009 also include the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) idea. The event aims to be a venue for meetings between local government and entrepreneurs, company owners and service providers, allowing them to establish business contacts and exchange remarks and experiences.

Public-Private Partnership will also be the subject of a conference on the first day of the fair. Apart from lectures and presentations, the program includes an analysis of good practice based on case studies from European countries and a discussion on possibilities and ways to apply PPP in Poland.

How can we ensure the development of rural areas? What projects will be best for a given commune? How can we obtain support for preparing terrain for investment under the Innovative Economy Operational Program? How can we computerize local public institutions efficiently and effectively? The answers to these and many other questions will be provided during the Local Government- Business Forum, a series of conferences and seminars accompanying the Gmina 2009 trade fair.

The event will also include the Investfield Investment and Real Estate Salon-an exhibition of investment proposals of specific towns and regions accompanied by a program covering general topics such as regional development, urban and rural planning and design, revitalization, road, transport and tourist infrastructure, and economic zones and industrial parks.

The honorary patrons of Gmina 2009 are the Association of Polish Cities, the Union of Rural Communes of Poland and the National Association of Village Administrators.
