Zelmer, Poland's largest producer of small household appliances, is planning to build a new factory to consolidate its leading market position in Poland and the region.

The company, whose main shareholder is the Enterprise Investors fund, is considering different locations for the new facility, but most Zelmer operations will remain based in Rzeszów and the Podkarpacie region in southeastern Poland. The company is planning to invest around zl.45 million in the project, which is expected to be completed in 2011.

According to research by the GFK Polonia polling company for January-August 2009, Zelmer was the third largest company in terms of market share in small appliances in Central and Eastern Europe.

The biggest markets for Zelmer products include Russia, the Czech Republic and Ukraine. The value of Zelmer exports in the third quarter of this year totaled zl.28.6 million, 29 percent up on the zl.22.2 million in the third quarter of 2008.

"The company's current position in Poland and Central and Eastern Europe necessitates redevelopment of production capacity to enable flexible response to market demands and meet much more restrictive quality and cost requirements," said Janusz Płocica, the chairman of the board of Zelmer SA.
