Polish helicopter producer PZL 安idnik in October manufactured its 1,000th fuselage for the AW 109 helicopter produced by British-Italian corporation AgustaWestland.

AgustaWestland, part of the Finmeccanica Group, has worked with PZL 安idnik for 13 years. The Polish company took 10 years to produce the first 500 fuselages for Agusta helicopters and only three years to produce the next 500. The 1,000th fuselage was made for the multiple-role helicopter AW 109 used by air forces in Sweden, Malaysia, New Zealand, South Africa and other countries. PZL 安idnik also produces fuselages for four other types of AgustaWestland helicopters.

Last year, production for AgustaWestland accounted for 35 percent of PZL 安idnik's sales. The figure is bound to increase soon, PZL 安idnik executives say, because AgustaWestland, which currently holds 6.2 percent of PZL 安idnik, will most likely become the majority owner of the Polish company. In August, the corporation won a bidding process to buy a further 87.6 percent of the stock in PZL 安idnik. The final agreement on the matter is expected to be signed by the end of this year once European Union anti-trust officials green-light the deal.
