Bass Master Plays Balboo
December 2, 2009
Article's tools:

Piotr Żaczek, one of Poland's most respected bass guitarists, will be performing at the Mono Club Dec. 9 to promote his latest album, Balboo.

Żaczek is best known as a session musician. He has worked with the likes of Kayah, Ewa Bem, José Cura and Gordon Haskell. His first solo album, Mutru, came out in 2006. Never straying far from the jazz idiom, the record won plaudits from fans and critics alike.

Many of the musicians with whom Żaczek has long been associated have joined him on Balboo, which came out in October.

These include Adam Bałdych on electric violin, Maciej "Kocin" Kociński on sax, Marcin "Mały" Górny on synthesizers and samplers, Grzegorz "Jabco" Jabloński on piano and keyboards, and Robert Luty on percussion.

Special guests featured on Balboo include Jahiar Azim Irani, an Iranian-born composer and vocalist now resident in Poland who fuses ethnic and modern music, and saxophonist Grzegorz Piotrowski, who plays the duduk, a wooden flute from Armenia.
