Something French in the Air
French electronic music duet Air will be appearing at Warsaw's Ursynów Arena Dec. 10. Air, which was founded in 1995 and comprises Nicolas Godin and Jean-Benoit Dunckel, are promoting their latest album, Love2, which came out in October.
Air's music is an amalgam of diverse styles that encompasses French house, dream pop, electronically inflected prog rock, chillout and synthpop. Godin and Dunckel cite Pink Floyd, Tangerine Dream, Jean-Michel Jarre, Vangelis and the classical minimalism of Philip Glass among their influences.
Air's first album, Premieres Symptomes, a collection of singles, came out in 1997. The following year brought them international recognition when they put out the electronic music classic Moon Safari (1998). This is where some of their greatest hits, including "All I Need", "Sexy Boy" and "Kelly Watch the Stars" can be found.
Sofia Coppola invited them to compose the soundtrack to her film The Virgin Suicides (1999). The soundtrack album they released in 2000 led to more film music and advertising projects.
"Our emotion is our strength," is how they describe themselves. "We try to focus on what we do best-create harmonies and compose melodies."
The Warsaw concert is part of their Close-up Tour.
