Night of the Tango
December 2, 2009
Article's tools:

The Tangata Quintet will be teaming up with Polish violin virtuoso Krzysztof Jakowicz at the Studio Buffo Theater Dec. 6 to perform some of the most beautiful tango music ever written at a concert entitled Tango My Love (Tango Moja Miłość).

The concert program was inspired by the works of the Argentinian master of the genre, Astor Piazzolla (1921-1992).

The Tangata Quintet is made up of Klaudiusz Baran on accordion and bandoneon, Grzegorz Lalek on violin, Piotr Malicki on electric guitar, Hadrian Filip Tabęcki on piano and Sebastian Wypych on double bass.

This is the same instrumental composition of Piazzolla's original group. Tangata's vision is to build an all-embracing art form based on the tango-one that combines instrumental music with song and dance. They have worked closely with Poland's best musicians and dancers, as well as the Argentinian Tango Academy in Warsaw, since their formation.

The Tangata Quintet will be performing Piazzolla compositions in the first part of the evening, while the second part will be given over to some of Poland's most beautiful tangos, written by such composers as Jerzy Petersburski (1895-1979), Władysław Szpilman (1911-2000) (Szpilman was the protagonist of Roman Polanski's film The Pianist), and Henryk Wars (1902-1977), all arranged by Hadrian Filip Tabęcki. The quintet will be accompanied by world-class violin maestro Krzysztof Jakowicz.

Top-flight Argentinian tango dancers Anna Iberszer and Jakub Korczewski will be performing on the night.
