The National Philharmonic is putting on a special concert of carols Dec. 21 to celebrate the Christmas season.

The National Philharmonic Chamber Orchestra, under the baton of Jan Lewtak, will be accompanying the National Philharmonic Choir, under the direction of its long-serving artistic director, Henryk Wojnarowski, in a performance of Corelli's Concerto Grosso No. 8 in G Minor, popularly known as The Christmas Concerto. Composer Maciej Małecki's arrangements of popular Christmas carols and pastorales will make up the remainder of the program.

The Polish tradition of Christmas carols is especially rich and varied. Some of them are anonymous folk songs harking back to the Middle Ages while others bear the signature of the world's greatest composers.
