Article's tools:

2010 is the Year of Fryderyk Chopin, marking the 200th anniversary of the composer's birth. Every country and every people need a positive symbol that they identify with and that instantly identifies them: a logo that is simple, clear, appealing to all, emotional and beautiful, and also international and universal; one feels tempted to say global. The best symbol of Poland is Chopin. The country never had nor will have a better one. Chopin is the spirit of romanticism, non-verbal, pure and loved by millions. Chopin of Poland. This is the essence of the image of the great composer which, particularly this year, should be interwoven with the image of Poland.

The 12 months of the Year of Chopin will be a huge, global concert, but primarily a Polish concert-and not just in musical terms. It will embrace almost all areas of culture and the arts, from mass culture to art for the elite. The presence of Chopin of Poland will be felt almost all over the world and on all continents, and Poland will be at the heart of these events.

Preparations for the Year of Chopin meant taking special care of all the places directly linked to the great composer. Warsaw has gained a unique, modern Chopin museum, the composer's birthplace of Żelazowa Wola entices visitors with its historical and thoroughly contemporary attractiveness, the church in the village of Brochów where he was baptized has been restored to its original glory.

This intensive activity is being accompanied by an extensive calendar of artistic and popular events. Key among them is the Chopin And His Europe festival in August-a month-long celebration of the music of Chopin and his contemporaries, performed by the world's top artists, and the 16th International Chopin Competition held every five years, this year in a new format. The Warsaw Voice will closely follow the Year of Chopin to enable our readers to take part in these special events. To those unable to do so directly, we want to offer a taste of this fascinating year. We hope that thanks to our diverse efforts, readers of The Warsaw Voice, including those who use our online content and services, will come to fully experience and understand the essence of the expression: Chopin of Poland.
