Trip Into Uncharted Territory

Although he is a musician and a composer rather than a singer, Pat Metheny is one of the most recognizable figures in jazz. Metheny will unveil his latest project, called the Pat Metheny Solo Guitar & Orchestrion, at the Kongresowa Hall March 1.

The Orchestrion project is a step into uncharted territory, says Metheny. It is a cluster of ideas from the late 19th and early 20th centuries combined with state-of-the-art technology.

Metheny uses the term 'Orchestrionics' to describe a method of performing solo on stage with acoustic and electroacoustic instruments that are mechanically controlled using the latest technology.

A new album by Metheny will premiere this spring. It will be the result of Metheny's experiments at the border of music and technology.
