Another travel firm files for insolvency

Article's tools:

Travel agent Blue Rays Thursday filed for insolvency, the latest in a string of Polish travel firms to run into trouble during the busy vacation season.

Over 400 people who bought vacations from Blue Rays are currently on holiday in Egypt but a company official said the hotels at which they are staying have been paid.

Two weeks ago, the local government of the Wielkopolska province had to cover the costs of bringing more than 400 Polish holidaymakers home from Egypt after Polish travel agency Alba Tour, based in the western city of Poznan, declared insolvency.

The company said it could not pay more than PLN 600,000 to cover the return flights of its customers.

The collapse of Alba Tour came in the wake of one of the biggest bankruptcy cases in Poland's tourism business when travel agency Sky Club filed for insolvency on July 3, leaving almost 5,000 people stranded in holiday resorts abroad.
