The Warsaw Destination Alliance (WDA) attended a conference called "Using Trade Fairs as an Effective Marketing Tool" at the Radisson Blu Hotel in Warsaw Feb. 17. The conference was organized by the Convention Bureau of Poland, part of the Polish Tourist Organization. The main speaker was Jon Bradshaw, IMEX Business Development Director.

IMEX is a leading European trade fair for the MICE sector, comprising meetings, incentive travel, conferences and exhibitions.

Speakers at the conference demonstrated how to use IMEX tools available to fair participants, such as pre- and post-mailings, meeting diaries, press boxes and other useful tools in order to be more effective.

The WDA has attended IMEX fairs since 2005. Each year the WDA presents Warsaw and its leisure and conference facilities to IMEX participants and visitors, and meets with groups of potential clients interested in Warsaw as a MICE destination.

Foreign Ministry Supports Chopin Spectacular
Foreign minister Radosław Sikorski has agreed to lend his name to a concert for 200 pianos planned by the WDA to mark the 200th anniversary of the birth of composer Frederic Chopin.

WDA and Blogs from Warsaw
You will soon be able to read blogs about the Polish capital on the WDA's website www.destinationwarsaw.com. On the main website page there will be a box with two blogs managed by foreigners living in Warsaw. Both writers, Ian and Mike, were WDA members. They write and comment on Warsaw and Poland from the point of view of a foreigner.

"It's a great place to catch a sideways glance at life in Poland. Think of our blogs as a fruit cake; rich with wit and satire, sprinkled through with nuggets of helpful advice and historical inaccuracies with a lingering, slightly intoxicating, after-taste that leaves one craving for more," wrote the bloggers at www.polandian.home.pl

2010 IMEX Challenge Poland
A Polish foster home will benefit from IMEX Challenge 2010, an event to be held in Poland in September by German trade fair organizer IMEX.
The IMEX Challenge is a new initiative designed to give meetings industry professionals the chance to work side by side in a physical challenge that will benefit a host community.

The decision to hold the first IMEX Challenge event in Poland in the fall of 2010 means that 20 individuals will have the chance to help nongovernmental organization Our Home to refurbish and renovate the garden of a foster family in Warsaw. Established in 1991, the charity has become the most important organization dealing with the problems of orphaned and neglected children in Poland. "Aside from developing a humanitarian event that will have a positive impact on a local community, these IMEX Challenges will aim to give the individuals involved the chance to leave behind a physical demonstration of their commitment. Rather than simply donating money, they will donate sweat, probably a few blisters and a lot of heart," said IMEX Group CEO Carina Bauer.

The 2010 IMEX Challenge Poland will run from Sept. 13-15. Future IMEX Challenges will be held every two years. More information at www.poland-convention.pl.from left: Carina Bauer (IMEX), Ray Bloom (IMEX), Krzysztof Celuch (CBP), Jon Bradshaw (IMEX)
