Feb. 15 marked the 100th anniversary of the birth of Irena Sendler, the Warsaw heroine who saved 2,500 Jewish children during World War II. In conjunction with the anniversary, the Kamienica Theater Feb. 15 hosted the world premiere of an American documentary called In the Name of Their Mothers, directed by Mary Skinner. During the ceremony, actors Krzysztof Kolberger and Małgorzata Zajączkowska recited poems dedicated to Sendler, who died in May 2008.
Guests invited to the ceremony included members of the Righteous Among the Nations association, Holocaust survivors, diplomats, officials, heads of international organizations and institutes of culture, foreign correspondents, and employees of international companies. The honorary patrons of the event were the President of Poland, the Mayor of Warsaw and Polish Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski.
