MultiFest.pl coordinator Katarzyna Knoll talks to Jolanta Wolska.

What is the idea behind MultiFest.pl and which organization is responsible for it?
MultiFest.pl is a Warsaw entertainment and events internet database. It is a free service. People who are planning to come to Warsaw and want to spend their leisure time in an interesting way or have a special experience can look up www.multifest.pl and see what they can enjoy on the day, next week or in a couple of months and book ahead.

The website was developed with foreign tourists in mind, but of course it is also useful for visitors from other parts of Poland as well as for locals.

The idea to set up the website came from both the Warsaw Destination Alliance (WDA) and the City of Warsaw Bureau of Culture in 2006. The first graphics for the website were financed by the City of Warsaw, while the WDA and The Warsaw Voice financed and organized the online database. The Warsaw Voice also finances the technical aspects of maintaining the website.

What innovations are you planning as the new MultiFest coordinator?
There was not enough interaction and usability on the website. So we want to introduce some innovations. For example, under every event, there will be access to a location map so that a newcomer to Warsaw can easily find how to get to an event.

Additionally, we now have a profile on Facebook. We already have some fans, people can comment about our site and also about the events we promote; it brings us closer to users of the MultiFest.pl website. Our presence on Facebook gives us huge opportunities. For example, we can add film clips about concerts. It is a great promotional tool.

How has the MultiFest.pl website changed?
We want to introduce a newsletter onto our portal. In the near future, we also plan to extend the website to include information about restaurants, cafes, pubs and clubs. We are thinking about a special zone: Warsaw for Kids. Young visitors and their parents will find information there about activities for children, a location map with playgrounds and so on.

Who is the target audience of MultiFest.pl?
Our main target are foreign tourists, but we also want to attract Poles, both Varsovians and people from other regions who are looking for events in Warsaw, or who may want to spend a weekend here. We are trying to have events listed for businesspeople, families with children and young people and singles.

The website opens in English, although of course it is also available in Polish.

Will you be updating the website?
It is important that information on the website is current and constantly updated. Event organizers can either send information to us or update the data directly themselves. It is my duty to ensure that all information is up to date. It is important that our users have very accurate information, otherwise we lose credibility.

We are trying to make sure that there is easier and quicker access to our site. In other words, when you type in “Warsaw events” into a search engine, we want MultiFest.pl to come up on top.

How many people use the MultiFest website?
Our database is available through the www.multifest.pl, Warsaw Destination Alliance and The Warsaw Voice websites. It’s hard to count up how many people access it daily.

My aim is to promote our website—so that everyone will want to know about it and consider it “the” portal for event information. We are planning to promote MultiFest in hotels, at home and abroad, through advertising and brochures. Also, it would be great if we could have our MultiFest website as the leading page on hotel computers available to hotel guests. Or to have a special stand at the Warsaw central railway station.
