The ballet Chopin, hailed as the most significant event of the Year of Chopin, is premiering at the Wielki Theater in Warsaw on May 9. The ballet depicts the composer’s life in Warsaw and Paris, and includes works by Berlioz, Lyapunov, Liszt and Schumann in addition to those of Chopin.

The ballet was choreographed by Patrice Bart, who has been associated with the Paris Opera Ballet for 50 years, while Antoni Libera wrote the libretto.

Bart, a respected French choreographer and previously the ballet master at the Paris Opera, has been invited to put on his performances of such ballets as The Nutcracker, Romeo and Juliet and Gustav III at many European opera houses, including Florence, Berlin and Stockholm. Libera is a well-known writer, literary critic, theater director and translator best known for translating Beckett and Shakespeare.
