InterContinental Wins BPCC Award
The InterContinental Warszawa Hotel, part of the InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG), the largest hotel group in the world, was named “Hotel of the Year 2010” at the British-Polish Chamber of Commerce’s annual Business Awards ceremony held at Warsaw’s Hilton Hotel April 29. The award for the InterContinental Warszawa is for the hotel’s overall business performance and for providing top-quality customer service.

The InterContinental Warszawa Hotel, which is a member of the Warsaw Destination Alliance (WDA), was also ranked among the world’s best hotels on the 2010 Expedia Insiders’ Select List. The list formally recognizes individual hotels worldwide that consistently deliver excellent service, a great overall experience and notable value.

Study Tour
The WDA, along with the InterContinental Hotel, the DTZ company and Focus Travel agency, April 26 hosted 14 MBA students from the Lucerne School of Business. The event featured presentations by the WDA and DTZ. Students were also addressed by Alex Kloszewski, chairman of the Warsaw Destination Alliance.

Christian Henkemeier, general manager of the Intercontinental Warszawa, spoke about the hotel’s operations in Warsaw and those of the Intercontinental Group worldwide.

The visiting students, who are majoring in tourism, were given a tour of the Intercontinental Hotel and were also shown around Warsaw by Focus Travel.

Entrepreneurs Praise Warsaw
According to the European Cities Entrepreneurship Ranking (ECER) survey by France’s Banque Populaire, Warsaw is the third most business-friendly city in Europe. The 2010 ranking list covered 37 cities in 18 countries. Warsaw came in third after Germany’s Frankfurt and Sweden’s Malmö.

In the survey, entrepreneurs were asked to assess cities they operate in according to a number of factors, including enterprise promotion and availability, assistance while establishing and developing a company, access to private and public financing, and business surroundings, including real estate and infrastructure.

WDA Joins Rat Race
The WDA supported this year’s Warsaw Rat Race, a 3.5k charity run in business suits and uniforms around Warsaw’s Pole Mokotowskie park May 8.

The runners formed teams of four and ran to raise funds for recently disabled young people. The registration fee was donated to the First Step Fund, a program to support recently disabled youngsters run by the Sue Ryder Foundation and the Association of the Friends of Integration.
