Donald Tusk
Polish PM Donald Tusk is not running for the position of the European Commission president, nor has the subject ever been raised during talks between him and German Chancellor Angela Merkel, he said on Friday, commenting on recent press rumors.

Last week the German Der Spiegel weekly wrote that the centre-right European People's Party (EPP) was considering Poland's PM Donald Tusk a leading candidate for the next European Commission president.

Der Spiegel also wrote that Tusk was the favorite candidate of German chancellor, Angela Merkel, whose Christian Democrats are also EPP members.

“This has never been the subject of my conversations with Mrs. Merkel and I will not apply for this position,” Tusk said.

“In 2014, when the current Commission chief's term ends, I will continue to be prime minister because the parliamentary term ends in 2015,” he added.
