Musical Cocktail From Pink Martini

American band Pink Martini will be performing at Warsaw’s Kongresowa Hall July 20. The 14-member group, often labeled a small orchestra, performs music from the border regions of classical, jazz and Latin with a retro tinge courtesy of French music hall.

Pink Martini is led by Thomas M. Lauderdale, a piano graduate from Harvard who founded the group in Portland, Oregon, in 1994 and vocalist China Forbes. Their first album, Sympathique, was released in 1997 and has sold over a million copies. Sympathique reached 10th position on the Billboard charts and went platinum in France.

Pink Martini also gives listeners a new take on old hits with songs like “Que sera, sera,” “Sympathique (Je ne veux pas travailler),” “Una Notte a Napoli” and “Let’s Never Stop Falling In Love.” The group has put out four studio albums to date. The latest, Splendor in the Grass, came out in 2009.

Pink Martini are equally at home performing in smoke-filled clubs, large concert halls, philharmonic halls and art galleries. The group has performed all over Europe and America. This is their second trip to Poland. They played in Warsaw’s now defunct Skarpa Club in 2007.
