Poland closes schools down with decline in population

Poland has closed down 1,500 schools this year and could close 5,000 within the next two years as the number of pupils is decreasing due to the downward demographic trends, the daily Dziennik Gazeta Prawna writes citing data it collected.

Closing down schools, although a socially sensitive issue, is the only way to save local authorities' budgets, local authorities argue.
