Bernard Weber, the founder and president of the New 7 Wonders foundation, which is running an international competition to pick out the “new seven wonders of nature”, July 17 visited the Polish pavilion at the Expo World Exhibition in Shanghai, China.

The Mazurian Lake District in Poland is one of 28 finalists of the New 7 Wonders contest, competing against such natural marvels as the Grand Canyon in the United States and the Maldives. The “new seven wonders” will be announced Nov. 11 next year and until then, people across the world can vote online and by cell phone.

During his visit to the Polish pavilion, Weber, who is also a keen traveler and a film director, met Chinese journalists to encourage them to promote the competition in China. A press conference was held at the Polish pavilion during which Marek Listowski, the deputy director of the pavilion, praised the beauty of the Mazurian Lakes.

“Expo 2010 is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to promote the Mazurian Lake District and the New 7 Wonders competition,” said Weber.

While in the Polish Pavilion, Weber, who in the past was an assistant to famous Italian director Federico Fellini, saw the film Animated History of Poland in 3D. “One of the finest 3D animations I have ever seen,” Weber said. “The man behind this could very well be the creator of the planned 3D film on the new seven wonders of world.”
