Polish registered unemployment rises to 12.4% in August

Poland's registered unemployment rate rose to 12.4% in August from 12.3% in July, according to Central Statistical Office (GUS) figures released Tuesday.

The number of registered unemployed at end-August measured 1.965 mln, up from 1.953 mln at the end of July.

The total of registered jobless included 207,300 newly registered jobless, below prior month's 212,800 new registrants.

Employers filed 74,400 job offers in August, down from 64,400 in July. That put the number of offers at end-month to 51,800.

Meanwhile as many as 488 Polish enterprises intend to lay off 39,300 employees in the near future, according to the end-August data of GUS. A year ago 434 enterprises planned laying off 37,300 employees.
