In August the Iluzjon Filmoteki Narodowej movie theater launches a series of screenings intended for English-speaking audiences and called The Best of Polish Movies.

The idea behind the project is to promote Polish cinema, while helping tourists and other foreigners living in Warsaw become acquainted with the classics of the Polish film industry.

Screenings will take place every Friday at 8 p.m., in Iluzjon’s temporary headquarters at the National Library. Films to be shown with English subtitles include Ashes and Diamonds directed by Andrzej Wajda, Austeria by Jerzy Kawalerowicz, and Jovita by Janusz Morgenstern.

The series will continue in the fall to conclude in December. In the coming months, films with French, German and Spanish subtitles will also be shown.
