Time to Rock

The first Rock In Summer Festival is being held at the Sowińskiego Park Amphitheater Aug. 17 and legendary punk rockers Bad Religion and Billy Talent are headlining. Bad Religion was formed in 1980. Their first, eponymous EP was released by Epitaph Records (founded by the group’s guitarist Brett Gurewitz) a year later. Their debut album How Could Hell Be Any Worse?, which came out in 1982, sold 30,000 copies and increased their fan base.

Bad Religion’s 30th Anniversary Tour comes after 14 albums and several line-up changes. We can expect a representative sample of the band’s prolific and varied output at the festival. Their next album, The Dissent of Man, is due for release in October.

Canadian punk rockers Billy Talent first saw daylight in 1993. They were known as Pezz until 1999 and, as such, released one album, Watoosh! (1999). The change was necessitated by an American band having the same name. Their first eponymous album as Billy Talent was released in 2003. The disk went triple platinum in Canada and the group has since won no end of awards, including several Junos (the Canadian recording industry awards) for best group of the year and another for rock album of the year.

Their third album, which came out in 2006, has been their greatest success to date, topping the charts and sales lists all over the world. Billy Talent has shared the stage with bands like Rise Against, Anti-Flag and My Chemical Romance. Billy Talent III, the band’s most recent effort, hit the stores in 2009.

This is Billy Talent’s second trip to Poland this year after playing the Stodoła Club July 13
