Singin’ in the Rain at Roma Musical Theater
October 1, 2012
The Roma Musical Theater in Warsaw opened their new artistic season Sept. 29 with Singin’ in the Rain.
The Roma’s new stage adaptation of this popular musical is the work of theater director Wojciech Kępczyński. Kępczyński is the director, Krzysztof Herdzin the musical director and Boris Kudlicka the stage designer. The costumes were designed by Dorota Kołodyńska and the lyrics translated by Daniel Wyszogrodzki.
The musical is a stage adaptation of the 1952 American musical comedy film of the same name—immortalized by Gene Kelly singing the title song in the rain while dancing with an umbrella. But that is not all that has made the film a classic. The musical partnership of Nacio Herb Brown and Arthur Freed gave birth to a roll call of memorable hits, including “Beautiful Girl” and “You Are My Lucky Star.”
