Poland is the only European country to have withstood the financial and economic crisis that began in 2009. Investors worldwide are starting to see Poland as a safe haven amid troubled European economic waters.
Bogdan Gutkowski, president of BIG InvestConsult AG, a Swiss company that opened a representative office in Poland this summer, talks to Zofia Szelińska.

Why did your company decide to come to Poland?
Why Poland? Because it’s worth it. Poland is the only European country to have withstood the financial and economic crisis that started in 2009. Investors worldwide are starting to perceive Poland as a “green island” on the map of Europe and are asking themselves, “Why aren’t we there yet?” The Polish economy is doing very well in these times of economic crisis, and it has a stable banking system. To back up my words, I would remind you that in the first half of 2010 Poland attracted over 377 million euros of new foreign investment.

Capital never sleeps. It is always on the move, always searching. At every stage of the business cycle, capital seeks interesting and attractive places around the world where it could multiply. People with capital are always asking the fundamental question: “Where do we invest it?”

The aim of my current efforts is the international promotion of Poland’s extraordinary economic and intellectual potential—promoting Poland as an excellent location for all kinds of business and encouraging capital and investors to come here.

What exactly does BIG InvestConsult do?
BIG InvestConsult AG’s operations involve obtaining funding for investment projects and vice versa—seeking out exciting projects for investors in Poland.

We also provide services to foreign businesses that want to launch investment operations in Poland. Our company has a well developed network of contacts on the Swiss and European financial and banking markets, among core investors, private companies and groups of wealthy investors with well defined investment goals and preferences. This ties in very well what other companies from the BIG INVEST Group do.

What is the BIG INVEST Group?
BIG INVEST is a new corporate brand for a group of experienced companies involved in engineering, design, developer operations, implementation and maintenance, offering comprehensive investment services. The design and implementation achievements of members of the BIG INVEST Group as well as the experts and companies working with the group are extremely extensive and include projects from many different sectors of industry and services. With the potential represented by the BIG INVEST Group—about 150 top-class specialists—we offer the full range of services that foreign investors who aim to make a name for themselves in Poland need. If they are looking for a trusted partner, who can act as an adviser, confidant and guide around Poland, the BIG INVEST Group is the answer.

Doesn’t acting on behalf of investors require a huge level of trust?
Of course. Our key values are integrity, competence, know-how and, first and foremost, trust. The success of each of the investment projects we handle is based on the confidence that clients place in us when they start working with us.

Apart from business, you are known for promoting art and culture. Do you plan any specific projects in this area?
It’s no secret that I have been committed to promoting culture in Poland for many years. I am also a publisher. As part of BIG InvestConsult AG’s operations in Poland, I plan to build cultural bridges between Switzerland and Poland. I have decided to publish and promote works by Swiss writers in Poland.

What are your business plans for the Polish market in the near future?
To keep finding more associates and partner companies for BIG INVEST and to provide good Polish projects with better access to sources of funding.
