Cultural Melting Pot
The Warsaw Cross-Culture Festival, one of the largest of its kind in Central and Eastern Europe, will be held outside the Palace of Culture and Science from Sept. 26 to Oct. 2.
The festival, organized by the City of Warsaw, was launched in 2005. This year, City Hall decided to build the entire festival program around a specific cultural and geographic area. The guiding theme this year is music that has its roots in Spain and Portugal, the idea being to celebrate the 200-plus years of independence of the countries of South America. Choc Quib Town, a young Colombian group that fuses salsa and hip-hop, Spanish singer Concha Buika, who weaves flamenco and copla into jazz and soul, and Carlos Libedinsky from Argentina with his project Narcotango, are all on the program.
Apart from South American music, there will be a “Chinese Day,” an “African Day,” and a “Mediterranean Day” as well as a strong Polish contingent. A major attraction is internationally acclaimed world music pioneers Osjan, who will be taking to the stage to celebrate 40 years together. Apart from all that, there will be a photographic exhibition, several musical workshops conducted by world class maestros, and lots of special attractions for children.
