High-Profile Mall for Rzeszów
October 1, 2010
Article's tools:

A high-profile shopping mall called Millenium Hall is under construction in Rzeszów, the largest city in the southeastern Podkarpacie region.

The Millenium Hall will be the largest shopping mall in Rzeszów with a catchment area stretching across the entire region. It will be an architectural landmark of the city and the Podkarpacie region. The mall will comprise 250 stores, cafés and restaurants, a nine-screen multiplex movie theater, a music club, a fitness and spa center, a hotel belonging to a global chain, a conference and business center with state-of-the-art equipment, a playground for children, an ice skating rink in winter and parking for 1,000 cars. The heart of the Millenium Hall is a square where thousands of visitors will gather at all kinds of events, including concerts, fairs, exhibitions and shows. The square will be decorated with a multimedia fountain.

The Millenium Hall has an excellent location in the city center, easily accessible by car and other forms of transportation, via city beltways. The mall’s coverage extends to 900,000 potential customers living within a 30-minute drive from the site.

Rzeszów is the largest center for industry, administration, culture and science in southeastern Poland. The city boasts an ideal location and superb infrastructure. The intersection of east-west and north-south routes and an international airport near Rzeszów enable the city to develop at a fast pace. Podkarpacie is a region with over 2 million potential customers. The region’s proximity to Ukraine plays an important part as well because Ukrainian citizens frequently visit Rzeszów in search of brands unavailable on the Ukrainian market.

Rzeszów has vast tourist potential, augmented by the upcoming Euro 2012 soccer championships and the government’s plans to open the eastern border. The city draws tourists from the West, including Britain and Germany, who visit the city for its natural beauty and reasonably priced medical services.

Multifunction urban space
The architectural design of the Millenium Hall is founded on a circle, the symbol of continuity, featuring a ring-shaped shopping center and a circular hotel. The circular plan is also heavily pronounced on three floors of the mall, so that the retail, leisure and sports facilities form a harmonious whole with the conference and hotel center. The design makes the mall a comfortable and attractive place to spend time in.

Art of life
In order to become popular with customers, every shopping mall needs a unique ambiance and attractive interior design. At the Millenium Hall, these have been taken care of by interior designer Magdalena Mika-Kosior from Cushman & Wakefield Polska, who has accentuated the beauty, individual character and personality of the mall.

Visitors to the Millenium Hall will promenade along four vast arcades named after timeless and firm values: Art Arcade, Philosophy Arcade, Nature Arcade, and Science Arcade. Each of the four has a unique feel and different visual motifs.

The leading motif of the Millenium Hall interiors are variations on a geometrical pattern that runs along the arcades like a ribbon. Changing shapes and colors, the pattern gives an individual touch to each of the four arcades. The pattern introduces an innovative approach to geometry as a decorative detail. The arcades and other passages inside the Millenium Hall vibrate with constant dialogue between the geometrical ornamentation of the floors and ceilings as the images on the ceiling correspond to those on the floor.

A major component of the interior decor is a unique lighting concept. In the Millenium Hall, light becomes a material to shape the space, joining in the interplay of the geometrical ceilings and floors and highlighting the textures of surfaces.

The inspiration for the Millenium Hall design comes from a vision of the future and resourcefulness of the people of Rzeszów and Podkarpacie. The spatial geometry of the leading motif stands for this dynamic vision, depicting never-ending development and dialogue. It stems from a modern approach to the interiors of shopping malls.

Esthetic values, quality and functionality
The Millenium Hall will be a prestigious shopping mall with stores stocking worldwide brands, some of them available for the first time in Rzeszów. The entire mall will be accessible to people with disabilities and parents with little children. The size of the Millenium Hall, its modern architecture, the harmony of esthetic values and functionality and the overall quality of the project have won the project an award from the SARP Association of Polish Architects. Anxiously awaited in the city, the Millenium Hall is scheduled to open in October next year.

Work in progress
The developer behind the Millenium Hall is the Develop Investment company. The project is being carried out by Dekra Construction Management and the CMP Group. The mall is one of the largest projects of its kind under development in Poland at the moment.

The mall’s grand opening is scheduled for October 2011.
