Sanok lies in the valley of the San river. The oldest mention of the town dates back to 1150. Today the town occupies 38 square kilometers and has a population of about 43,000.

Sanok Mayor Wojciech Blecharczyk:
“Sanok is a town that is increasingly recognizable in Poland and abroad. It is an ideal place for investors, located in a great tourist region, at the crossroads of the main roads running from Rzeszów, Przemy¶l and Cracow to Lake Soliński and the Bieszczady Mountains and to the border crossings with Ukraine and Slovakia. It is a tourist attraction with well-equipped hotel and sports facilities as well as an academic center.”

Sanok tempts visitors with its many historical sites and other attractions. These include an open-air museum and the Historical Museum housed in a Renaissance castle with Poland’s most valuable collection of Orthodox Church icons and a collection of works by Zdzisław Beksiński. Both museums are mentioned in the Larousse encyclopedia.

Sanok hosts numerous cultural and sports events. Arena Sanok is a modern entertainment and sports hall with an ice rink and an all-weather speed skating track. Another attraction, as of four years ago, is speedway racing on ice, which brings in huge crowds from Poland and other countries as well as millions of TV viewers.

In summer, there is swimming in the San river or the town’s swimming pool complex. In winter, skiing enthusiasts can take advantage of the ski lift in nearby Karlików.

Regular events held in Sanok include the world championships in ice racing and ice hockey championships, the Hockey Challenge, Polish championships in curling and speed skating, the Adam Didur Vocal Music Festival, the International Accordion Festival, the International Guitar Festival, the International Piano Festival and the Jazz-Bez Festival.
