Apocalyptica, a Finnish metal outfit comprising three cellists and a percussionist, is descending on Poland once more. They will be appearing at the Stodo³a Club in Warsaw Oct. 25.

Apocalyptica was formed in Helsinki in 1993. The group comprised Eicca Toppinen, Paavo Lötjönen, Max Lilja and Antero Manninen, all graduates of Finland’s prestigious Sibelius Academy. Their recording debut Apocalyptica Plays Metallica By Four Cellos (1996), which featured cello arrangements of Metallica songs, established them internationally. The album sold over a million copies worldwide.

Apocalyptica’s second album, Inquisition Symphony (1998), boasted some of their own compositions alongside covers of works by bands like Faith No More, Sepultura and Pantera. Subsequent albums have seen covers give way to original material. The band have also pressed several vocalists into service, including Sandra Nasic from Guano Apes, Lauri Ylönen from The Rasmus, HIM frontman Ville Valo, and Slipknot singer Corey Taylor.

Their latest album, 7th Symphony, came out in August this year. One of the producers was Howard Benson, best known for his work with such legendary bands as Motörhead and Sepultura. Slayer percussionist Dave Lombardo, Bush frontman Gavin Rossdale, and Joe Duplantier from Gojira all sit in.
