Opera Meets Metal
October 1, 2010
Article's tools:

Tarja Turunen, a Finnish vocalist who lends her classically trained operatic voice to rock and metal tracks, is appearing at the Stodoła Club on Oct 1.

Turunen started out by co-founding and fronting the Finnish symphonic metal band Nightwish. During her stint as lead singer from 1996 to 2005, Nightwish recorded five albums that sold more than a million copies worldwide.

Turunen curiously kicked off her solo career with a Christmas album, Breath From Eternity (2006). Her next, My Winter Storm (2007) went gold in just one day and “I Walk Alone,” the single taken from it, spent several weeks basking in the upper reaches of the Finnish and German charts.

Turunen’s latest album, What Lies Beneath, came out in early September. Her Stodoła set list will feature works from both her solo career and her Nightwish days.
