SLD seeks to liberalize abortion law

Left-wing opposition party Democratic Left Alliance (SLD) plans to submit its own draft law on "conscious parenting", lifting ban on abortion up to the 12th week of pregnancy, SLD representatives said.

The bill envisages reimbursement of contraceptives and three in vitro fertilization trials as well as sex education from the first year of primary school.

SLD's initiative follows the Parliament's voting down of a similar draft by the Palikot Movement (RP) and continuation of works on a rival draft by Solidary Poland (SP), SLD MP Joanna Senyszyn said on Thursday. SLD's draft reheats proposals presented already in 2004.
