Boosting Trade Ties
October 29, 2010
Article's tools:

Trade between Wallonia, the southern region of Belgium, and Poland has been booming since Poland joined the European Union in 2004. Poland is among the top 10 export markets for Wallonia. After a slowdown in 2009, trade is now bouncing back fast, with a 30-percent increase in Walloon exports to Poland in the first six months of this year. In an example of this trend, Walloon company IBA, a world leader in cancer therapy, signed a contract in August with the Polish Academy of Sciences for the construction of a New Proton Therapy Center in Cracow.

To support trade between Wallonia and Poland, the Polish office of the Wallonia Foreign Trade and Investment Agency (AWEX) has been set up. It is headed by Maxime Woitrin. AWEX promotes development opportunities for foreign companies in Wallonia, for example at the 20th Economic Forum, held in Krynica, southern Poland in September.

As a foreign trade agency, AWEX informs Polish companies about Walloon products and informs Walloon companies about business opportunities in Poland. For instance, AWEX and the trade offices of the Brussels and Flanders regions are organizing a Belgian-Polish Forum on innovation in water treatment. This event will take place on Nov. 9 at the Belgian embassy in Warsaw as part of Belgian Days. It will gather together stakeholders in the water treatment sector in Poland and Belgium. For more information on this event and on Wallonia, please contact us at awex@varsovie.pl or go to www.wallonia-international.be
