Sandomierz, a city with a history dating back a millennium, is picturesquely located on the banks of the Vistula River. In the Middle Ages, Sandomierz was one of the most important towns in Poland. When Poland emerged as a state, Sandomierz became a city of kings along with Cracow and Wroc³aw.

Sandomierz boasts a number of unique historic sites, most notably the Opatowska Gate, the Renaissance Town Hall, Sandomierz Cathedral, Sandomierz Castle, and one of Poland’s oldest schools, the Collegium Gostomianum, established over four centuries ago.

Sandomierz also has remarkable natural attractions. Within the city boundaries lies the geological and natural reserve called Góry Pieprzowe (Pepper Hills), one of the oldest mountain ranges in Europe whose age is estimated at 500 million years. Sandomierz is surrounded by loess gorges, the most beautiful one being the Gorge of Queen Jadwiga.

Tourists who enjoy sports and active recreation will appreciate the renewed Piszczele Park, a perfect place for entire families to relax. New attractions in the park include rambling and bicycle trails, a skate park and a park with a rope course. The newest landmark of Sandomierz will be the Vistula Boulevard, scheduled for reopening early next year after thorough redevelopment. New facilities located along the boulevard include a modern marina, an aquatic sports center, attractive playgrounds and an outdoor concert venue. The Vistula Boulevard, the Old Town and Piszczele Park are linked with recently opened bicycle trails and pedestrian walkways.

We strongly encourage you to visit the City of Kings!
