A painting by Claude Monet has returned to the National Museum in Poznań from which it was stolen 10 years ago.

Beach in Pourville (1882), an oil painting 60 by 73 centimeters in size, was stolen in September 2000 by a self-professed art lover named Robert Z. The thief used a sharp tool to cut the painting from the frame.

The picture was returned to the museum in a sorry state, creased and one centimeter smaller on each side due to being hastily cut out. Restoration work took several months. The painting is now on display in its full glory at the National Museum in Poznań (9 Marcinkowskiego Ave.). It is displayed along with a film documenting all its restoration stages.
