W.A.S.P. at Progresja

Article's tools:

U.S. metal legends W.A.S.P. are coming to Poland for two concerts, one of which will be at the Progresja Club in Warsaw on Dec. 5.

W.A.S.P. was formed in Los Angeles in 1982 and consisted of Blackie Lawless on lead vocals, Rik Fox on bass, Randy Piper on guitar and Tony Richards on percussion. The original lineup soon split, setting the pattern for what has since become such a revolving door that Blackie Lawless is the only founding member left.

In 1983, Iron Maiden’s manager Rod Smallwood caught the band in concert. Smallwood was so impressed with their music and stage act that he started promoting them. A year later and the group was signed up with Capitol Records. The first, self-titled album was released in August 1984.

W.A.S.P. has courted controversy with their stage antics and song lyrics from day one. The band has had bound models on stage, and Blackie Lawless has hurled chunks of raw meat into the audience and even quartered a pig’s carcass.

W.A.S.P. has put out 14 studio albums, four live albums and hit the road for 16 concert tours during its career. The band’s most recent studio album, Babylon, came out in 2009.
