Stills and sets from Polish films are some of the items on display at a virtual exhibition at the National Film Library to celebrate its 55 years. The exhibition gives an inside look at the history of the Polish firm industry.

The Film Library is a state cultural institution charged with preserving the nation’s cinematographic heritage and popularizing film culture.

The exhibition, which can be viewed at www.fn.org.pl, showcases the most interesting documentary materials from the National Film Library’s collections. These include magazines, posters, stage sets and archives—mostly taken from the institution’s formative years in the 1950s. The organizers explain that this was one of the most important periods in the history of Polish cinema as it was then that the industry began to forge its own identity and gain international recognition.

This exhibition amply illustrates the variety and uniqueness of the collections, together with their artistic, historical and substantive merits and attempts to depict the role played by the National Film Library in documenting the history of Polish movie making.
