Teachers and students from Warsaw’s British School held a charity drive at the Sinnet Tennis Club to raise money for a school in Wilków, Lublin province, that was destroyed in a flooding. Over zl.10,000 was raised during the Swimming Charity sporting event.

The main originator was Sarah, a 16-year-old student at the British School and daughter of triathlon buff Ulrike Fuhrmann. Triathlon is a sport that combines swimming, cycling and running.

Managers, bankers and lawyers from several large firms, including Opel, Nestle, ING Bank ¦l±ski, DZ Bank, ITI, City Bank, and General Motors took part. Some of them, actively engaged in sport as members of clubs, came with their children, who are enrolled in the British School.

In all, almost 50 swimmers took part in the event. The youngest competitor was just 7 years old. Altogether, 63 kilometers were swum.

The British School selected the school in Wilków as the beneficiary and this school, in turn, will decide where how to spend the money.

Swimming Charity was the second event of this type that the British School has organized and the first in conjunction with the Sinnet Tennis Club.

Sylwia Trzuskowska-Antoniak, marketing manager of the Sinnet Tennis Club, said she was happy to have run the drive together with the British School. “We had a very good working relationship and I’m happy to say that we’ll be able to organize other events together,” she said. The club supports charitable institutions such as the Great Christmas Aid Orchestra, for which it runs a Tennis Star Tour, and the Probono.pl Foundation (www.probonopl.org).

The Sinnet Tennis Club has been going since 2004 and has around 500 members. The club has four indoor tennis courts, two outdoor courts, three squash courts, a 25-meter pool, a gym and fitness center, and a restaurant. Members hold meetings, matches and tournaments.
