Pennywise Finally Drops In
December 30, 2010
Article's tools:

Those American masters of melodic hardcore skate punk, Pennywise, are making their first trip to Poland to play one concert only at the Proxima Club in Warsaw on Jan. 22.

The band was formed in Hermosa Beach near Los Angeles in 1988. The original lineup consisted of Jim Lindberg on vocals, Fletcher Dragge on guitar, Jason Thirsk on bass, and Byron McMackin on drums. They all went to school together and shared a fascination for punk rock and skate boarding.

Pennywise released their first EP A Word From the Wise in 1989. The recording sparked so much interest that Epitaph Records, one of the major independents, signed them up a year later. Their eponymous debut album came out in 1991 and won a following in the underground punk rock scene.

Pennywise have so far recorded 13 albums and have become one of Epitaph’s most important and most popular artists, ranking alongside Bad Religion, NOFX, and Offspring. Jim Lindberg parted company in 2009 and was replaced by Zoli Teglas from Ignite. Their most recent album, Reason to Believe, came out in 2008. The band is currently working on new material.
