The Moscow Circus on Ice, an extraordinary spectacle where circus performance meets revue meets figure skating, is performing at Warsaw’s Kongresowa Hall on Jan. 27.

The Moscow Circus on Ice was the brainchild of circus performer Arnold Gregoryevich. After two years of recruiting and training performers and working out choreography, the Circus gave its first performance on Oct. 16, 1964. A year later, they went on their first overseas tour. Since then, they have appeared in most European countries as well as Canada, Japan and the United Arab Emirates.

The troupe has always taken the best acrobatic graduates from the celebrated Moscow Circus School and from ballet schools that combine circus ballet with ice skating. There are currently 35 artists in the lineup.

Artistic director Natalya Abramova sees to it that the group maintains its superb tradition while enriching its repertoire. The show is choreographed so as to present lots of individual circus displays and includes virtuosic figure skating routines, some of which are not found anywhere else in the world.

The light show is stunning, the costumes can only be described as dazzling, and the music is a heady mixture of Russian folk and rock ’n roll. Put all this together and you are guaranteed to be kept on the edge of your seat for the entire 120 minutes.
