Tired of the cold winter days? Why not warm your heart with lively songs about sea adventures at the Shanties festival in Cracow.

First held in 1981, the festival has since developed into a microcosm of its own. It always attracts entire families who enjoy concerts with scripts and narrators who introduce audiences to the colorful world of sailors. This year’s festival will begin Feb. 22 with a concert entitled It Started Here and the final concert, 30 on the Beaufort Scale, is scheduled to take place Feb. 27. The festival will also feature 30th anniversary concerts performed by stars, a concert of memories, rock and jazz versions of shanties and special concerts for children.

The performers will include some of the biggest stars of Poland’s shanty scene, including Banana Boat, EKT Gdynia, Andrzej Korycki, Ryszard Muzaj, Jerzy Porębski, Rycz±ce Dwudziestki, Qftry and Marek Szurawski. Foreign guests include the Groms Plass group (Norway), Armstrong’s Patent (Netherlands) and Les Souilles de Fond de Cale (France).
