A new musical called “Tuwim dla doros造ch” (Tuwim for Grown-ups) opened at the New Stage of the Roma Musical Theater in Warsaw on Jan. 15. The show is a musical portrait of Julian Tuwim, one of the greatest Polish poets of the interwar period, told with wit and relish. Tuwim was extremely incisive towards life, human foibles, social mores, and politics.

Director Jerzy Satanowski has sifted through Tuwim’s work to show how disillusioned he was with life during the interbellum. The show is also heavily imbued with the atmosphere that surrounded the poet—an atmosphere of vitality and ebullience with a pinch of melancholy. Both satirical and lyrical texts have been set to music.

Work by a slew of top-notch composers, including Zygmunt Konieczny, Leszek Mo盥瞠r and Henryk Wars, has been used in the show.
