They Love Rock

Legendary 1970s bands Smokie, Slade and The Sweet are coming to Poland for three dates on their We Love Rock tour.

Formed in 1966, Slade had its heyday in the late 1970s and early 1980s. Their first big hit was “Coz I Luv You,” which also introduced their trademark misspelled titles. In 1976, Slade left for New York City to record an album entitled Nobody’s Fool and over the two years that followed, they played 200 gigs in the United States. They rose to popularity again in the early 1980s with albums entitled We’ll Bring the House Down and The Amazing Kamikaze Syndrome.

Chris Norman, Alan Silson and Terry Utley, the founding members of Smokie, met in school in the 1960s and formed a band they called The Yen. They changed the name to Smokie several years later and soon after the single “If You Think You Know How to Love Me” catapulted them to stardom. The group spent the following five years touring the world and at almost every concert, they picked up gold and platinum records for hit singles such as “Don’t Play Your Rock’n’Roll To Me,” “Living Next Door to Alice,” and “Oh Carol.”

The history of The Sweet also dates back to the 1960s when the band spent several years searching for a sound of their own and a song with which they could make it big. In the early 1970s, they teamed up with the famous Chinn-Chapman producer-composer duo and the collaboration yielded The Sweet’s first smash hits, including “Block Buster,” “Hell Raiser,” “The Ballroom Blitz,” “Teenage Rampage” and “Fox On The Run.” The songs topped the charts in Britain, turning The Sweet into the most popular glam-rock act of the 1970s.

Slade, Smokie and The Sweet will play in Gdynia, Poznań and Warsaw joining forces for a one-of-a-kind rock extravaganza.
