MBA Education in Bloom
January 27, 2011
Article's tools:

MBA courses appeared in Poland after the country switched to a market economy two decades ago. The situation was clear—Poland lacked well-educated managers and programs, and had a shortage of qualified lecturers while the needs were huge. It comes as no surprise then that the Warsaw University of Technology Business School was set up as a joint international undertaking in conjunction with three Western European schools: London Business School, HEC from Paris, and NHH from Bergen.

Today, the situation is quite different. With the help of foreign experience and assistance, over a dozen or so years we have built our own reputation and brand, recognizable in Poland and abroad. Not only are our MBA degrees among those valued the highest in Poland but our MBA programs have also ranked high, in 23rd place, in the TOP MBA league table compiled on the basis of surveys among employers. We offer our students a top-quality education provided by the best Polish and foreign professors. Half the students enrolled in our International MBA program with English as the language of instruction are foreigners from all continents. We are beginning to compete with the best, although we are aware that there is still a long way ahead for us. This is why we are going to make big changes to our MBA programs next year and adapt them fully to the challenges of the contemporary world. We want our students to be able to better understand processes taking place in the economy and firms, both those that lead to progress and development and those that lead to slumps and crises. We will put greater emphasis on educating true leaders, individuals able to encourage other people to action and inspire them while at the same time having a full understanding of their own responsibility and the social role business should play. We think that our MBA program will be among the most modern in the world and among those that best meet the challenges faced by leaders in today’s turbulent times.

Poland, Europe and the world need more entrepreneurial spirit and more knowledge. They need bold leaders with vision. We think that the Warsaw University of Technology Business School can contribute to this. If Poland was a “green island” on a continent in recession it should also become a “green island” in terms of flourishing education.
