U.S. thrash metal outfit Overkill are playing the Stodoła Club in Warsaw March 13 as part of their European KillfestTour 2011. They will be sharing the stage with Heathen and Destruction.

Overkill goes back to the early 1980s. The group was founded by singer Bobby “Blitz” Ellsworth, bass guitarist D.D. Verni and drummer Rat Skates. Guitarist Bobby Gustafson came on board in 1982. After pumping out a couple of demo albums in 1983, the band secured a deal with the independent Azra label. This resulted in their first self-titled EP. Critics gave the record the thumbs up, bringing the band to the attention of John Zazula, owner of Megaforce Records. Overkill’s collaboration with Zazula landed them a new recording deal and their debut LP Feel the Fire came out in 1985. Their third album, Under the Influence (1988), was their greatest commercial success, having sold over 500,000 copies and counting.

Overkill’s most recent album, Ironbound, came out last year and is being promoted on the current concert tour. Critics have hailed the recording as a sign that the band is returning to its musical roots.

U.S. thrash metal act Heathen has been going since 1984 and count Metallica and Exodus among their influences. Heathen’s debut album, Breaking the Silence, came out in 1987, and they got themselves noticed when they supported Sepultura several years later. Heathen now have four well-received albums to their credit. They’ll be promoting the most recent, The Evolution of Chaos, which was released last year.

Destruction, one of the “three kings” of the Teutonic thrash metal scene, will be promoting their album Day of Reckoning, which they only put out in January this year.
